Frames are being dropped

Having individual frames dropped occasionally is normal. However, frequent drops need to be addressed. If you encounter this, please see the troubleshooting section of the documentation page for your camera type for suggestions.

Buffered data accumulates

If the amount of buffered data increases consistently, this means that the recorded data cannot be written to disk sufficiently fast. Once the amount of buffered data reaches the configured recording cache size, frames will start being dropped.

If you experience this, as a first step, please verify that the path of the workspace which you are recording to is located on the intended disk (and you are not accidentally recording to a slow HDD, for example). Having checked this, the issue may be addressed in the following ways:

• If you have multiple disks, consider using them as a RAID in a mode that increases write speed.

• Buy a faster SSD to use for recording.

• Configure a large Recording cache size in the recording settings, allowing a significant amount of data to be cached in RAM before being written to disk. While this will not fully solve the issue, it allows you to record longer videos before frames will start being dropped. Take care to keep the recording cache size sufficiently low that, together with the amount of RAM used for other purposes, it will not fill your RAM to 100%.
